Notable Incidents

Some deaths in confinement have been publicly known, such as a middle-aged hospital director who perished in confinement after a third of a year in detention.

A detainee detained alongside the individual stated that he was led to the exercise area by correctional officers shortly before his demise, visibly injured and exposed from the waist down. His body has not been repatriated to Gaza.

Further inmates who lost their lives in confinement by Israeli authorities are unidentified. The prison service and military provided researchers with the total of fatalities in custody, and minimal additional information including the location where they died, but not the detainees’ identities.

Recognition Difficulties
